Cap on Care Fees scrapped

The Conservative pledge to introduce a cap on social care fees by 2020 has been cancelled.

David Cameron proposed an upper limit of £72,000. The Daily Mail were recently told by a senior government source that the upper limit wouldn’t be implemented for at least another decade at the earliest.

Care fees eroding the family jewels has long been a fear to many, and this looks to continue now for many years to come.

Personal Care Fund ?

Similar to pensions, ministers are suggesting that we have a personal care fund put to one side.

A consultation document is being drafted to outline the future of social care but it looks like it is going to be delayed until summer 2018.

Current Care fee rules

We are expected to pay for all personal care fees whilst our assets are above £23,250. The cost of care may be met by selling non liquid assets during lifetime or deferring the cost of

care until after death. Either way thousands of families are being denied their rightful Inheritances.

So what can be done?

Well firstly you need to understand the facts of the matter. What you don’t know, you don’t know !

Instances where life goes wrong and as a consequence thousands of pounds are lost from the estate are very often caused by none or too basic will planning.

At My Family Matters we specialise in structuring your will so it actually protects what you have built up through your lifetime when the time comes.
